In an unprecedented incident, Masri board decided to prevent club supporters from traveling with the team to Cairo for the weekend’s league clash against Gaish.

The Masri fans, renowned for their impatience, were furious with players as Alain Geiger’s side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Police Union last weekend.

The matter escalated when some players, including midfielder Ahmed Al-Merghani, reacted angrily by confronting a contingent of supporters in the stands.

“We decided not to escort any supporters with us to Cairo after what some fanatics had done during the match with Police Union,” Masri chairman Kamel Abou-Ali told FilGoal.com.

“They were too harsh on the players and we believe this had a negative impact on the team’s performance.”

Masri fans were significantly responsible for the departure of former manager Mokhtar Mokhtar, who was sacked after a 3-1 home defeat to lowly Smouha back in November.
