The 21-year-old has been preparing to be between the posts as coach Jorvan Vieira intended to rest first-choice Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed in Thursday’s game.
However, Al-Shennawi found out that he will once again warm the bench, soon before storming out in anger.
“I’ve been promised to start in the match, I’ve been preparing for this all week and even captain Abdul-Wahed has been speaking with me about it,” the Egypt international told FilGoal.com.
“I was shocked to know that I am not starting against Petrojet, so I felt I am not needed, that’s why I left.”
Al-Shennawi only featured in one game this season, a 2-1 win over Gaish back in March.
Suddenly
Echoing the keeper’s comments, skipper Abdul-Wahed admitted he didn’t expect Vieira’s decision to keep him in goal.
“Since two days and I know well that Al-Shennawi will start,” the veteran said.
“Two hours before the game, the manager suddenly changed his mind and decided to play me because he said there are many changes in the team already.”
Meanwhile, Vieira has decided not to let Al-Shennawi go unpunished for his rant as the Brazilian sent a complaint directly to the board, calling his keeper’s act as ‘disrespect to Zamalek’.
