The Egyptian FA has confirmed that the 2013-2014 Egyptian Premier League season will include 22 clubs, the association said on its website.

A few weeks after announcing that the 2012-2013 season is off for security concerns, the Egyptian football governing body said that the new league system will involve 22 clubs divided into two groups.

The new league will see Masri come back after serving their ban from domestic competitions last season in the wake of the infamous Port-Said disaster.

The competition will also include three newcomers in promoted trio Ragaa, Minya and Canal.

The FA, however, is yet to declare the kickoff date or the schedule of the domestic competition.

Lingering security concerns prompted last season's league cancellation in the wake of nationwide protests against former president Mohamed Morsi who was then ousted by the military on July 3.

Up until now, Egyptian clubs are not allowed to host continental games in Cairo or Alexandria – the country’s two major cities.

It remains to be seen how the FA will handle Egypt’s top domestic competition amid ongoing political unrest, with authorities still firm on banning fans from attending any football event.
