Ghana will have to do without star midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng in next week’s World Cup qualifying playoff against Egypt due to a knee injury.

The Schalke playmaker was a major doubt to play the October 15 game in Kumasi, even so the Black Stars maintained their hopes of having him fit for the first leg.

However, the Ghana FA confirmed on Thursday that he is ruled out.

“Kevin-Prince Boateng has been ruled out of Ghana’s squad to play Egypt in Tuesday’s crucial 2014 World Cup playoff in Kumasi,” a Ghana FA statement read.

“Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah was hoping further tests on the left knee problem could clear Boateng to play for Ghana in the match.

“But the tests in Germany have revealed that Boateng must undergo treatment for the injury which means he will not be available for the match against Egypt.”

It is believed that Boateng injured himself in the same place that was subjected to six operations before.

The 26-year-old joins a long list of absentees for Ghana, including regular trio John Boye, Jonathan Mensah and Mohamed Rabiu.
