Egypt and Tottenham striker Ahmed Hossam “Mido” applauded his club's decision to sign veteran Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids.

"The signing of Davids was a good move from the coach (Martin Jol)," SkySports.com quoted Mido as saying to Dutch magazine Sportweek.

Tottenham landed Davids in the off-season despite reports questioning the form of the 32-year-old Dutchman.

Davids had a frustrating season with Serie A giants Inter Milan where he missed the majority of the campaign before taking his trade to England.

But Mido stressed that Davids hasn't been affected by age and highlighted his role at White Heart Lane.

"He is precisely the experienced player we needed in this mostly young squad. We needed a guy like that.

“And, I wouldn't call him an old guy, if you look at him in the training exercises and matches," he added.

Talking to a Dutch magazine, Mido referred to his spell with Ajax Amsterdam whom he described as "glorious".

"The Premiership is stronger and bigger than the Dutch league, but Ajax is a bigger club than Tottenham Hotspur. Ajax has much more history and glory."

Mido is leading his team with six goals that helped the Spurs to fourth place in the Premiership so far this season.

The 22-year-old striker hopes his side can move higher or at least hold on to their place in the table to secure a European appearance next season.

"I think it's possible to finish in the top four. With a qualification (ticket) for the Champions League," he said.
