The Egypt boss held a press conference that included all the national team players in Alexandria where they are preparing for an international friendly against Zimbabwe on Thursday.
Shehata pleaded with the media to support the national team in their build-up for the CAN, noting that false reports and rumors are his biggest enemy.
"Rumors are the biggest problem I’m facing," said Shehata. "They threaten the stability of the national team."
When asked how he will replace veteran defender Emad Al-Nahhas, who will miss the ACN due to injury, Shehata explained that he has prepared suitable alternatives.
"Abdul-Zaher Al-Saqqa, Ibrahim Saied and Hosni Abd-Rabou are all prepared to fill the void," he said.
The former Zamalek star claimed he was 85% decided on the players who will be included in Egypt's ACN squad but will delay announcing his list until January 9th, which is the deadline set by CAF.
Meanwhile, Egypt skipper Hossam Hassan asked the fans to show their support for the national team in the upcoming period.
Besiktas midfielder Ahmed Hassan commented on the omission of Turkey-based defender Beshir Al-Tabei from the Egyptian squad.
"His absence will not be catastrophic," said Hassan. "The available defenders are also of high caliber."
The Egyptian team will resume training at the Naval Academy training ground on Wednesday to allow the Zimbabwean team to train in the Alexandria International Stadium on the night of the game.
