Milan made a decisive move for Amoroso, who will be presented during an official press conference on Saturday, after former team striker Christian Vieiri moved to French club Monaco.
The former Udinese and Parma ace’s new deal with Milan sees him return to the Serie A after a three-season spell at Borussia Dortmund, a one-year spell with Malaga and finally a move to Sao Paolo in 2004.
“There was never the possibility of remaining in Brazil without returning to Milan. First of all, because no one knew the real motive behind my decision to stay in Brazil, which was just to help with my father’s recovery in overcoming a delicate situation, but he is fine now, his problem has been resolved,” Amoroso told the official club website.
“Secondly, because there was never anything true about my possibility of going to San Paolo. I have not decided how I will end my career. I have a contract with Milan until June 30, 2007. I can then go back to Brazil, I can retire, or I can sign a contract until June 30, 2008 which is ready for me at Milan headquarters.
“At the moment, all I am thinking about is training to get ready, then we’ll see how we can improve the defence. Ever since I came to Milan, I have always heard about the problems of the defence,” he added,
The 31-year-old forward, who lead Sao Paolo to clinch the Club World Championship (CWC) title in Japan, scored 39 goals during his former period in the Italian league and was named top scorer in the 1998-1999 season with a tally of 22 goals.
