Top-seed Lindsay Davenport fought her way past out-of-form Russian Svetlana Kutznetsova to advance to the Australian Open quarterfinals on Sunday.

The 29-year-old American raced to clinch the first set in merely 18 minutes before she received treatment for an ankle injury in the second.

A series of unforced errors from the 14th-seeded Russian handed the struggling Davenport a 6-2, 6-4 victory and a quarter-finals meeting with Belgian star Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Eighth-seeded Henin-Hardenne booked her last-eight berth after defeating Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-0, 6-3 in the fourth round.

Fourth-seeded Maria Sharapova was tested by Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova as she fought back from a three-game deficit in the second set to post a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the tournament’s 17th seed.

Sharapova next takes on compatriot Nadia Petrova who ousted their compatriot Elena Vesnina in straight sets.

Swiss ace Martina Hingis highlights the quarterfinal action on Monday as she takes on Australian favorite Samantha Stosur while second-seeded Kim Clijsters faces 15th-seeded Italian Francesca Schiavone.
