Senegal players celebrating victory

Senegal thrashed Zimbabwe 2-0 in their African Cup of Nations (ACN) Group D match that took place on Monday in Port Said.

Senegal striker Henri Camara grabbed the lead for his side on the hour-mark before midfielder Issa Ba secured their victory ten minutes from full-time.

Senegal lead the Group D standings ahead of Nigeria, who defeated Ghana 1-0 earlier, on goal difference, while Zimbabwe tail the chart.

Senegal were intent on winning their African Cup campaign’s first match and chose to take an aggressive approach against Zimbabwe, but squandered a host of chances in the first-leg.

The Lions of Teranga also witnessed a Henri Camara goal disallowed after committing an offside offence.

Camara then broke the deadlock after launching a deft counter-attack that saw him go one-on-one on the Zimbabwean goalkeeper and volley the ball straight into the net.

Ba doubled Senegal’s lead and sealed the victory after sailing home from a Camara cross in the 80th minute.
