Ghana revived their hopes of qualifying to the second round of the African Cup of Nations (ACN) after beating Senegal 1-0 in their Group D match on Friday.

Matthew Amoah gave Ghana the win when he beat Senegal goalkeeper Tony Sylva with a brilliant strike from an acute angle in the 13th minute.

Senegal's Habib Beye and Ghana's Laryea Kingston were sent-off after a scuffle in the 62nd minute. Both players will miss their teams' final group matches on Tuesday.

The win put Ghana at level with Senegal on three points to set a tight conclusion for Group D that also includes Nigeria and Zimbabwe who also play on Friday.

The Teranga Lions dominated the field throughout the match but squandered a host of chances to score, while Ghana depended on deft counter-attacks that repeatedly threatened Sylva's goal.

The Blacks Stars of Ghana will next face Zimbabwe while Senegal will take on Nigeria.
