"I had a knock around my right knee in the match against Zimbabwe and it really hurts when I try to shoot," Oruma was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"It's an old injury and we just have to wait and see if I'll be fit for the game against Senegal."
The 29-year-old Marseille midfielder helped Nigeria collect six points from victories over Ghana and Zimbabwe before he aggravated the injury last Thursday.
Meanwhile, Nigeria team doctor Abdulkadir Muazu confirmed Oruma’s bad condition but said that team skipper, Jay-Jay Okocha, who missed the first two games in the African Cup of Nations with an injury, is on his way to recovery.
"It's really a touch and go situation right now with the player," said Muazu.
"We cannot really say whether he will be okay for Tuesday because we need a few more days to really assess his recovery which has been remarkable."
The qualifying teams remain undecided in Group D as the Eagles hold the Group D summit with six points followed by Senegal and Ghana with four points.
Nigeria could exit the tournament if they lose to Senegal with more than a two-goal margin assuming Ghana defeats Zimbabwe.
