Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero struck a late goal to give his side a 2-1 win over title contenders Inter Milan in Serie A action on Sunday.

Del Piero curled home an 85th minute free-kick after Walter Samuel cancelled out Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 63rd minute initiative for Juve.

The win strengthened Juve’s grip on the Serie A as they lead the table with 66 points, 12 ahead of AC Milan who moved into second spot, leading Inter on goal difference, after a 4-1 win over Reggina earlier on Sunday.

Juventus took charge of the game from kick-off but were stunned by a goal from Adriano’s free-kick that was disallowed by the referee who called it back with three minutes to play in the first-half.

Swede international Ibrahimovic put the Serie A leaders in front when he slotted home from a Mauro Camoranesi cross three minutes past the hour.

Nearly ten minutes later Argentine defender Walter Samuel headed home from a corner-kick to put the Milanese giants at level.

Del Piero dealt the final blow to Inter when he brilliantly converted an 85th minute free-kick home from the edge of the area.

Alvaro Recoba came close from snatching an equalizer deep in stoppage time but was unfortunate to see his free-kick crash on to the woodwork as Juve held on for the win.

Earlier on Sunday, striker Filippo Inzaghi struck a hat-trick as AC Milan came from a goal down to win 4-1 at Reggina.

Carlos Paredes put the home side ahead as early as the 10 minutes but Inzaghi needed only 4 minutes to put Milan at level.

Alberto Gilardino grabbed the lead for Milan before Inzaghi added a second-half double.
