Riquelme, who was nursing a thigh injury back home in Argentina, has been deemed fit for the Glasgow trip by Villarreal's medical staff, Sky Sports News reported.

The 27-year-old trained with the Yellow Submarines following their 4-0 win over Espanyol in La Liga on Sunday, which gave coach Manuel Pellegrini something to smile about.

"The weekend was perfect for us. The three points against Espanyol and the return of Roman," Pellegrini told a press conference on Monday.

The Villarreal boss did admit the player was completely fit though.

"Physically he's (Riquelme) not 100 percent because he's been out of action for 15 days," he said. "But he's really keen to play and his game is based more on technique than fitness."
