“We only need six more points to fully guarantee clinching the Egyptian league title for this season once and for all,” Jose told a press conference on Tuesday.
Ahli defeated Asyut 3-0 in a match postponed from roun-15 to maintain their status as league leaders with a tally of 59 points.
“I admit that their performance wasn’t great, but we deserved to win, the same as Asyut didn’t deserve to lose as they played an open game and showed great form and harmony throughout the match,” Jose said about his players’ performance during the match.
Asked about Mohamed Abou-Treika, Jose said: “Abou-Treika’s presence increased the team’s power and gave our attacking-line a more threatening edge.”
In-form Abou-Treika, who netted a brace in the Asyut match, comes as the league’s top scorer with a tally of 13 goals.
Jose also insisted that they will do their best in the remaining five matches to ensure the title victory and to complete their winning streak.
Ahli need one more victory to tie Zamalek’s record of 52 straight wins when they play against Suez Cement in the league’s coming round.
