Folwer handed Liverpool the equalizer

Liverpool's veteran striker Robbie Folwer will have the chance to extend his stay at Anfield after he was offered a one-year extension, the club said on Friday.

Fowler rejoined Liverpool in January from Manchester City on a six-month contract and had to wait till the end of the season to know whether he will be have a new deal or not.

"This is fantastic news. Robbie has done really well and he deserves this," Spanish coach Rafael Benitez was quoted as saying by Liverpool's official website.

"He has scored some vital goals for us and he has worked really hard. I am delighted to have him with us for next season. He is an important member of our squad."

The 31-year-old has been dubbed 'God' in his nine-year stint at Anfield starting from 1992 before leaving for Leeds United.

Folwer, who found the net four times in 15 encounters since January, voiced his happiness over the club's decision and thanked the fans for their continuous support.

"I am absolutely over the moon," Fowler told Liverpool's website. "I was buzzing when I got a six month deal so you can imagine how happy I am to have been given another year."

"When I signed for six months in January the manager told me he would look at the situation at the end of the season. He's had a look at what I've done and thankfully I've been given the best possible answer.

"I just can't thank them (fans) enough. They've given me so much support over the years and I'm grateful for that. Now I can't wait to score more goals for them and the club over the next year."
