Osasuna coach Javier Aguirre announced that he will leave the club by the end of this season, Spanish media reported on Wednesday.

Aguirre's contract with the club is due to expire next June and the former Mexico coach informed his players that he has no intention of staying with Osasuna next season.

The 47-year-old head coach, who has been linked with several clubs including Atletico Madrid, has previously lead Mexico to the second stage of the 2002 World Cup before leading Osasuna to their first Copa Del Rey final last season.

Osasuna currently hold fourth place in the Spanish Liga and are well on course for a UEFA Champions League place next season.

Spanish media have reported that Deportivo La Coruna's coach Joaquin Caparros is a strong candidate to replace Aguirre at Osasuna.
