Holland coach Marco Van Basten has named on Sunday his 23-man strong squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Van Basten excluded Ajax striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and veteran Bayern Munich ace Roy Makaay, opting for a partnership between Manchester United's Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Dirk Kuijt up front.

The 22-year-old Huntelaar showed fine form in the Dutch Eredivisie this season, netting 17 goals with Heerenveen and Ajax, but was surprisingly overlooked by Van Basten.

Premiership duo, Tottenham veteran midfielder Edgar Davids and Middlesbrough's George Boateng have been also left out while Nigel de Jong will not take part in the World Cup through injury.

Holland were drawn in Group C of the World Cup, along with Serbia and Montenegro, Ivory Coast and Argentina.

Holland's squad:

Goalkeepers: Edwin van Der Sar (Manchester United), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Henk Timmer (AZ Alkmaar).

Defenders: Kew Jaliens (AZ Alkmaar), Jan Kromkamp (Liverpool), Andre Ooijer (PSV Eindhoven), John Heitinga (Ajax), Khalid Boulahrouz (Hamburg), Joris Mathijsen (AZ Alkmaar), Giovanni Van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Tim de Cler (AZ Alkmaar).

Midfielders: Mark van Bommel (Barcelona), Philip Cocu (PSV Eindhoven), Denny Landzaat (AZ Alkmaar), Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax), Wesley Sneijder (Ajax), Rafael van Der Vaart (Hamburg).
