Rooney was due to undergo a scan on his foot on the 14th of June, but England and his club Manchester United moved it to June seventh in order to have the option of replacing him ahead of the World Cup should his injury takes longer time to heal.
"Following a meeting today between England’s medical team and Manchester United’s medical team, with both managers present, it has been agreed to obtain a further precautionary CT scan on 7 June in order for the England management to make a decision before the deadline of 9 June," said a statement carried by United's official website.
"Both parties agree that everything possible is being done to aid the recovery of the fracture, which involves the joint."
FIFA have set June ninth as the deadline for replacing any injured players and the new scan's date will give England a chance to call-up a replacement.
The 20-year-old striker broke the fourth metatarsal in his right foot during United's 3-0 Premiership defeat to Chelsea.
England were drawn in Group B of the World Cup, along with Trinidad and Tobago, Sweden and Paraguay.
