Jose Cardozo could miss Paraguay’s World Cup campaign after picking up a calf injury during his team’s friendly against Denmark.

The veteran striker, who played for Paraguay during their 1998 and 2002 World Cup campaigns, is expected to be sidelined for a period of three to four weeks according to the medical staff’s decision.

The 27-year-old had scored Paraguay’s goal against Denmark in the 1-1 draw that took place on May 27th.

Cardozo’s absence will give a chance for Borussia Dortmund’s Nelson Valdez and Bayern Munich’s Roque Santa Cruz to play in Anibal Ruiz’s World Cup squad.

Paraguay will kick-off their World Cup campaign by taking on England on June 10th in Frankfurt before playing against the rest of the Group B contenders, Sweden and Trinidad and Tobago.
