“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the coming days, but I won’t join Zamalek,” Abdul-Wahab told FilGoal.com exclusively on Wednesday.
Abdul-Wahab, who moved to Ahli on loan two years ago from the second-division UAE club whom which he still has one more year to go with, has been contacted by a number of clubs to join them for next season.
The talented defender had told FilGoal.com in April that he is happy with his period with Ahli and stressed that he doesn’t want to play for any other club in Egypt, but insisted that ultimately it wasn’t up to him to decide whether he played locally or internationally.
The African champions suffer from a deficiency in the left-back position, especially after Angolan defender Gilberto picked up an injury, Ahmed Abou-Mossallam’s move to French outfit Strasbourg and Ahmed Shedid Kenawi’s failure to impress, which drove the club to sign Zamalek’s Tarek Al-Saied.
Abdul-Wahab played a pivotal role in Ahli’s Egyptian league campaign, in which he scored three goals, and Egypt’s African Cup of Nations (ACN) campaign.
