The Lyon midfielder's injury forced him out of Friday's training, raising doubts over his chances in participating in France's Group G opener against Switzerland.
"We will know today or tomorrow (Sunday) whether he can play. We will try to have him on the pitch (for training)," France coach Raymond Domenech said.
The injury comes as a concern for Domenech after losing the services of Djibril Cisse who was broke his leg in a friendly warm-up and was replaced by Sidney Govou in the squad.
Marseille's Frank Ribery is tipped to feature for Les Bleus against Switzerland in case Malouda failed to recover in time.
