Zamalek defender Mahmoud Mahmoud has been suspended for three games and fined EGP 3,000 for his unsporting behavior in the Egyptian Cup final against Ahli, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on Thursday.

Mahmoud was sent-off in the first-half of Zamalek's 3-2 defeat to rivals Ahli on June 16th for punching opponent Emad Meteb.

The EFA competitions committee said that Mahmoud will miss Zamalek's opening three matches against Ghazl Mahalla, Petrojet and Enppi in next season's Egyptian league.

EFA official Ezzat Nayef said that the competitions committee chose to hand Mahmoud a reduced ban given "the volatile atmosphere" surrounding the Egyptian sports community these days.
