Ahli begin title defense against newly-promoted Tanta

Ahli kick-off the defense of their Egyptian league title away to the newly-promoted Tanta on August 3rd, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Thursday.

Ahli kick-off the defense of their Egyptian league title away to the newly-promoted Tanta on August 3rd, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Thursday.

The EFA also designated December 8th as a date for the Cairo derby between Ahli and rivals Zamalek in the 14th round of the competition.

Runners-up Zamalek host Ghazl Mahalla in their opening game at the Military Academy Stadium on August 4th while third placed Enppi play Olympi.

The Egyptian league has been extended to 30 rounds instead of 26 after increasing the number of premier league teams to 16.

Along with Tanta and Olympi, Petrojet, Tersana and Asyut Petrol were promoted to the first division.

The 2006-2007 Egyptian football season kicks-off on July 23rd with the Super Cup match between Ahli and Enppi.
