Brazil midfielder Juninho Pernambucano has announced his retirement from international football on Sunday after his country's disappointing exit from the World Cup.

"It is over for me and it has finished in a very bad way. There is total sadness. It is not the time to appoint blame. We all lost," Juninho was quoted as saying by Brazilian paper O Globo.

Brazil endured a disappointing World Cup campaign as they were knocked-out of the World Cup's quarter-finals following a 1-0 defeat to France on Saturday.

Juninho called on his international colleagues who are above the age of 30 to follow his footsteps, in order to give a new generation the chance to arise.

"We have to think about young guys and build up another team," the Lyon midfielder said.

"All the ones who are more than 30 have to leave their place to the younger players, to make a new team for 2010."

Brazil stars like Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Gilberto, Emerson, Ze Roberto, Ricardinho and goalkeeper Dida have all exceeded the age of 30.
