Manchester United vice-captain Ryan Giggs said his side should kick-off their Premiership campaign in style if they want to compete for the title.

"We've got to be consistent and get off to a good start because we don't want to be playing catch-up (to others)," the veteran winger told Manchester United television.

"We had a great run at the end of last season, but we didn't get off to the best start, and ultimately I think that cost us in the end."

United bagged 18 points only in their first ten games in the Premiership last season and were left struggling to narrow the gap with Chelsea and Liverpool for the rest of the campaign.

They finished the season as runners-up, eight points adrift of champions Chelsea and one point ahead of Liverpool.
