Valencia, who have previously confirmed interest in the Spanish international, are in talks with Premiership champions Chelsea and are expected to seal a deal by the end of the week.

"We are in negotiations with Chelsea and we hope to solve the situation this week," Valencia sporting director Amedeo Carboni was quoted as saying by Sky Sports on Monday.

Carboni has traveled to London to complete the deal that is expected to be worth £4.75 million ($8.65 million).

The 25-year-old defender joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid last summer but failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, making only 25 league appearances for the Blues.

Carboni, meanwhile, played down Valencia's interest in Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo who is interested in moving to the Primera Liga.

The Che official insisted that despite coach Quique Sanchez Flores's interest in the player, the club has not made a move for the Portuguese international.

"I have read what the player said regarding his wish to play in the Spanish league next season.

"Many clubs have made a move but for the time being, we are not one of them," Carboni added.
