Qatari side Qatar have completed the signing of Nigeria's former captain Jay-Jay Okocha on a one-year deal, the club said on Wednesday.

Okocha failed to agree terms on a new deal with Premiership side Bolton Wonderers and opted for a free transfer to the Gulf.

"Of course, Jay-Jay is here to help us win silverware," Qatar board member Jassim bin Hamad was quoted as saying by the club's official website.

"He has passed the medical and will join the team in a training camp in the Czech Republic soon."

Okocha has a wealthy European experience as he played in French side Paris Saint-Germain, Turkish Fenerbahce and Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany before moving to Bolton in 2002.

On the international level, Okocha featured in three successive World Cups in 1994, 1998 and 2002.

He also won the golden medal with the Nigerian team at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

The 32-year-old played retired from international football following his country's exit from the African Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier in 2006.
