Charlton striker Daren Bent has signed a new four-year contract with his club, the Premiership side said.

Bent was reportedly targeted by several Premiership giants but he opted at last to stay with his club.

"Although I'm flattered to be linked with the country's biggest clubs I owe Charlton as they gave me my Premiership chance," Bent told Charlton's website on Tuesday.

"I've a good feeling about this season. If I can match what I achieved last season I will be delighted."

Bent had a remarkable campaign in the 2005-2006 season when he found the net 18 times to become the most prolific English striker in the league.

Charlton new manager Iain Dowie was delighted to have the 22-year-old in his squad.

"This is fantastic news for the club and I think the chairman is to be congratulated on securing Darren's signature for the next four years," he said.
