Wehda skipper Alaa Kwakbi set a surprise by announcing his retirement from football, leaving the coaching staff in a tight spot.

Kwakbi sent an official letter to Wehda's board citing financial reasons for his decision, Al-Watan newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The captain's decision comes in a time where the Mecca-based club has reached an agreement with Ittihad Jeddah to sell striker Issa Al-Mehyaani.

The Asian champions are prepared to pay SAR 14 million for the services of Al-Mehyaani and include two Ittihad players as part of the exchange, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported.

Al-Mehyaani finished on top of the scorers list in the Saudi league last season.
