Werder Bremen manager Thomas Schaaf dished out praise for Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan after his impressive performance in the 2-1 win over Hamburg on Tuesday.

"Congratulations to Mohamed (Zidan), he was man of the match," Schaaf told reporters after the victory over Hamburg in the League Cup semi-final.

Zidan put Bremen ahead in the 50th minute and put on a good display throughout the game.

"He was moving well and created a lot of chances for his teammates," said Schaaf. "He was constant threat to Hamburg."

The 23-year-old striker, who was on loan to Mainz last season, seemed to adapt very well with the team.

"Mohamed managed to fit in with his teammates," the Bremen coach said.

"He improved tremendously during his spell with Mainz and became familiar with the Bundesliga, which was the point from loaning him out."

Werder will play the League Cup final on Saturday against the winner from the other semi-final between Bayern Munich and Schalke.
