James with England

Portsmouth have signed England international keeper David James from Manchester City on a two-year contract for $ 3.7 million, the Premiership club said.

The 36-year-old, who was linked with the move to Pompey since the end of last season, will join fellow England players Sol Campbell and Glen Johnson at Harry Redknapp's team.

"We're delighted with having David with us, he's a great athlete and will bring great presence and a lot of experience to the team," Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp told Sky Sports News on Friday.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have snapped up Sweden keeper Andreas Isaksson from French side Rennes as a direct replacement of David James.

Both City and Charlton Athletic have been competing for Isaksson's signature before the 24-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Eastlands.

"Manager Stuart Pearce believes in me which is very good, my ambition is to still play for one of the absolutely best clubs, but right now it feels very good," Isaksson told Swedish publication Sportbladet.

Following the capture of Dietmar Hamann, Ousmane Dabo and Bernardo Corradi, Isaksson will be a major asset to Stuart Pearce's side in their new campaign.
