Al-Shater picked up an injury in Ahli's goalless draw against Asante Kotoko in Ghana last week but reports claimed he would be fit for Monday's game.
"I trained with team only once," Al-Shater told FilGoal.com on Sunday.
"I believe coach Manuel Jose preferred not to include me in the squad so I can get some rest," he added.
Jose announced an 18-man squad for the game against Asyut, but Al-Shater said that the Portuguese manager usually doesn't give reasons for excluding a player from the squad.
Meanwhile, winger Mohamed Abdullah has been included in Ahli’s match squad for the first time since last season.
