Angola, who made their first World Cup appearance in Germany earlier this summer, beat out Gabon and Equatorial-Guinea (Joint bid), Libya and Nigeria for the honor.
The decision was made after CAF's executive committee assessed the bids of the short-listed countries in their meeting in Cairo.
But in an unexpected move, the executive committee decided to name the hosts for the following two tournaments.
Gabon and Equatorial-Guinea were awarded the 2012 tournament while Libya, who had lost bids for the 2004, 2006 and 2008 finals, were awarded the 2014 tournament.
The 2008 African Cup of Nations will be held in Ghana.
