France manager Raymond Domenech stunned reporters by claiming that his side's 3-1 win over world champions Italy "wasn't perfect".

"The perfect match is the one in which you score on every attack and that your opponents are unable to put you in danger," Domenech told a press conference after the game.

I hope there will be better performances from us," he added.

Sidney Govou fired home a brace and Arsenal skipper Thierry Henry added a goal of his own to give Les Bleus revenge for their defeat against Italy in the 2006 World Cup final two months ago.

"Beating the world champions always means something special. We have tamed two world champions over the last two months," said Domenech, referring to the 1-0 win over Brazil in the World Cup quarter-finals.

The win maintained France's perfect record in their Group B of the 2008 Euro qualifiers as they raised their tally to 6 points, but Domenech kept his feat on the ground.

"Tonight's win doesn't qualify us for the European championship," he said. "There are still 10 matches to play and a long way to ride."
