"It was important for me to lose weight. I knew that and I went home and worked on it," Mido was quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph.
"Now it's my job to keep fit because unfortunately at the end of last season I got injured, didn't play the last five or six games, and I put on weight."
Mido is set to play his first game after the Spurs reunion late on Saturday at Old Trafford against Manchester.
He rejoined Tottenham after the club initially refused to sign him permanently from AS Roma for his repeated injuries and weight problems, although he excelled during the 18-month loan period at White Hart Lane.
But new-look Mido, who also got rid of his long hair, explains that these problems were out of his hands.
"This is my body. If I don't train, I gain weight, even if I eat normally. I worked hard for it and now I have to stay fit until the end of the season," the 23-year-old said.
"I lost about 10 kilos. I think the hair was three kilos! I am now talking to a Brazilian man who is one of the best physical trainers.
"I hope I can get an agreement with him to work with me for the next year."
