Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello admitted that Lyon were the better side in their UEFA Champions League Group E match on Wednesday.

The new-look Spanish giants were outplayed by the Ligue 1 champions who went on to win the game 2-0 and Capello believes the first-half was decisive.

"Lyon were superior to us technically and physically in the first 45 minutes," Capello was quoted as saying by Sky Sports after the game.

The French champions were two up after just 31 minutes, courtesy of goals from Brazilian international Fred and Portuguese midfielder Tiago.

"They created many chances to score and we were a bit weak in defense.”

Newcomer Fabio Cannavaro, who failed to deal with Juninho’s long ball that led to the first goal, echoed Capello’s sentiment.

"We played very badly and Lyon were much quicker than us particularly in the first half," said the World Cup winning captain.

"I think the problem is basically a question of fitness. I see this as the important factor more than lapses in concentration."

But Don Fabio remains confident he can shape up the Galacticos.

"There is still a lot of re-building work to do. We must keep believing in our ability. We are going to improve soon."
