Rossi was appointed as emergency commissioner of the FIGC in May when Franco Carraro resigned.

Carraro stepped down after being implicated in last season's Italian match-fixing scandal.

Rossi was appointed to redirect the federation after the scandal, but was also chosen as President of Telecom Italia on Friday.

After discussion amongst staff at FIGC, it was decided that a conflict of interest existed and Rossi along with his staff, Vito Gamberale, Paolo Nicoletti and Demetrio Albertini have also resigned, saying they are unable to continue with the initiatives.

"The commissioner and his assistants, collectively and individually, note that the conditions do not exist for the continuation of the work that has been undertaken to bring (Italian football) back to health," read an official FIGC statement.

"Therefore with that reasoning they have brought forward the end of their mandate."

Gamberale had been pegged as a replacement for Rossi, but his resignation leaves a void in leadership for the FIGC.

Both Gianni Letta and Raffaele Pagnozzi, who already filled the role of commissioner from 1996 to 1997, have been rumored as appointees.

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) put lawyer Massimo Coccia in charge of the FIGC until Thursday when they are set to discuss a replacement for Rossi and his team.
