The Dutchman limped during the 2-0 victory over Rangers in the Glasgow derby on Saturday.
"He's sore today," Celtic's official website quoted manager Gordon Strachan as saying in a press conference on Monday.
"He did well to play on in the last couple of minutes on Saturday. His ankle is a bit sore and puffy but we'll wait and see how it is tomorrow morning
But Strachan said his side have the quality replacements in case Vennegoor of Hesselink failed to recover in time for the game.
"I would like him (Vennegoor of Hesselink) to play because it's a winning side at the moment and he's been doing well but we're not desperate," he said.
"If he can't make it then we've got people like Magic, who came off the bench on Saturday and Craig Beattie as well so we'd lose a good player but we've got another one coming in."
Vennegoor of Hesselink scored in his side's 3-2 defeat against Manchester United in Group F opener at the Old Trafford.
Celtic root the group with no points as Benfica and Copenhagen have one point after their goalless draw.
