Ferguson expects France coach Raymond Domenech to call Saha up for the European Championship qualifier despite the striker recovering from hamstring and groin strains that kept him out Manchester United's win over Newcastle.
"They always call the player up even if he has a leg hanging off," Ferguson told United's official website on Wednesday.
While Ferguson said he would not fight Domenech's decision, he urged the Frenchman to use common sense when picking his squad.
"We just hope for common sense. I don't mind him playing if he's fit, but if he's not fit, he shouldn't be training or playing."
Still Domenech has not given up yet and has insisted that Saha is still an option.
"For the moment, Louis is not ruled out," he said. "He is with us and I will see over the next day or two what kind of state he is in. We will see how it develops. We still have some time."
