Al-Shater put pen to paper on a deal that will extend his stay with the African champions for three more seasons, but said it was not all smooth sailing.
"Each party wanted to enforce its demands, which stalled negotiations for a while," Al-Shater told FilGoal.com.
"But we made mutual compromises so we can reach an agreement," he added.
The former Ismaili and Zamalek player said that he does not know if there is a clause allowing him a move to Europe.
"I skimmed through the contract and agreed to the general terms, and left the details to my lawyer.
"In all cases, Ahli always allow the players to pursue their dreams of playing in Europe if the right offer comes, so I'm not worried," Al-Shater added.
Al-Shater, who joined Ahli from Ittihad Jeddah in 2004, helped the Red Devils win two league titles, an Egyptian Cup title and the African Champions League and African Super Cup.
