Cech was on the pitch only 16 seconds on Saturday's game before taking a knee to the face during a challenge from Stephen Hunt, a collision that left him unconscious and stretchered off the pitch to the hospital.

The Czech Republic goalie undergone a skull surgery and an official statement issued by Chelsea said: "The operation was successful but it is too early for an accurate assessment of his condition."

Cudicini also sustained an injury in the dying seconds when he collided with a Reading player before being also being hospitalized but released early on Sunday.

Defender John Terry took over the goalkeeping position for the remaining minutes during the game.

Mourinho sees the two injuries as very different offences and made it clear that he expects the FA to look into the matter.

"The first challenge is unbelievable," Mourinho said on Chelsea's official website. "(Hunt) cannot go for the ball and goes with his knee on his face."

"He says that it was not intentional and I believe players. But it was a very stupid challenge and it was a challenge for a red card.

"It is one for the authorities to look at in the same way they looked at Thatcher on Mendes."

On the other hand, the Portuguese boss said he understood the collision between Ibrahima Sonko and Cudicini was nothing more than a bad fall.

"The second is a violent fall. For me it is a fall for a yellow card. The way Carlo hits the ground was unlucky," Mourinho said.

Chelsea are likely to face Barcelona later this week in the Champions League without both keepers, leaving third-choice goalie Henrique Hilario tipped for the mega clash.

While Mourinho is out for blood, Reading manager Steve Coppell was quick to defend his player, denying any intention of harm.

"There is no way Hunt went there to do damage," he said. "The referee was ten yards away, he was in a great position to see the incident and he didn’t book him."

Mourinho stated he saw Hunt laugh after the collision, which Coppell denied, countering that the player is very contrite about what has happened.

"Hunt was not laughing at anyone being injured. No-one in my team would laugh at an opponent being injured," Coppell said.
