Parreira, who quit Brazil after the 2006 World Cup finals, believes both players’ clubs contributed to their recent dip in form.
“After doing well in the Confederation Cup and the Copa America, Adriano was out of form during the World Cup in Germany, just like teammate Ronaldo,” Parreira was quoted as saying by Calcio Italia magazine.
The new South Africa manager said that Adriano and Ronaldo need a ‘new challenge’ to regain their top form.
“I think both players need new motivation,” said Parreira. “Adriano has been at Inter for too long and now it’s time to change.
“Ronaldo too could benefit greatly from a move to another club, as long as he plays in a League at the level of the Spanish one, like the Premiership.
Adriano has suffered a turbulent period with the Nerazzurri last season and is at risk of losing his starting place in coach Roberto Mancini’s line-up.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo has been struggling with injury all summer and will have to do a lot of work to impress Real’s new coach Fabio Capello.
“They must both recuperate their physical fitness and the eagerness to play football, no one forgets how to play – the only problem is desire.”
