Portugal manager Luiz Felipe Scolari believes Manchester United assistant coach Carlos Queiroz wants his job.

The Brazilian manager hit out at Queiroz after the latter attended Portugal’s 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan in the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

"He came to see the game and to work his candidacy for the Portuguese job in the future and he is well received by us,” Scolari was quoted as saying by Euro Sport on Thursday.

"We always open our doors to people,” added a sarcastic Scolari.

Big Phil said that Queiroz’s presence was made to seem like he was checking up on compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo who played the match against the will of United boss Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson was concerned with his winger’s fitness after he picked up an ankle injury in United's 1-0 Premiership win away at Blackburn on Saturday.

"It is all a question of image," said the Portugal boss. "So he (Queiroz) can have something to say to his club.”

Scolari went on to accuse Queiroz of being double-faced.

"He says this in public [that Ronaldo was not fit] but, for us, he says that he is well and he can play."
