Tunisian giants Etoile Sahel held champions Royal Armed Forces of Morocco to a 1-1 draw in the first-leg of the African Confederation Cup final in Rabat on Saturday to close on the title.

Etoile took the lead through Gilson of Cape Verde in the 33rd minute before an own goal from Saber Ben Fredj leveled the score for the Moroccan hosts.

Gilson's vital away goal has given the Tunisian side an advantage ahead of the second-leg that will take place in Souse on December 2nd.

Gilson connected with a deft Yacine Chikhaoui pass to fire Etoile ahead.

The Tunisians finished the match with ten men after Mejdi Ben Mohamed was sent off in the 69th minute.

Three minutes later Ben Fredj netted in his own goal to put the Moroccans at level.

Chikhaoui could have grabbed a last-minute winner for Etoile when he went one-on-one with RAM goalkeeper Tarek El Jarmouni only to fire wide with the goal at his mercy.
