AC Milan returned to winning ways after Paolo Maldini’s header gave them a 1-0 home victory over Messina in the Italian Serie A on Saturday.

Maldini, who said that he will consider retiring at the end of the season, netted the only goal of the game in the 13th minute when he received Andrea Pirlo’s free-kick with a backward header into the net.

Milan’s first league victory in five matches helped ease the pressure on underfire coach Carlo Ancelotti and placed them in 14th place of the table with 11 points.

Ancelotti will be relived with Rossoneri’s win as his side miss goalkeeper Dida, midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, Serginho and Alessandro Costacurta through different injuries.

Elsewhere, Victor Obinha netted a brace to help Chievo Verona grab their first win of the season after defeating Udinese 2-0.

The 19-year-old Nigerian striker scored in the 31st and 71st minutes to lead his side to a precious win.
