Brazilian defender Naldo scored a hat-trick to lead Werder Bremen to a thrashing 6-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday to maintain their position on top of the Bundesliga table.

Naldo opened the score line as early as the third minute but Marco Russ equalized for Frankfurt just one minute later.

Daniel Jensen restored the lead for Bremen in the 11th minute before two goals from Naldo in the 31st and 48th minute put the visitors on course for a comfortable win.

Sotirios Kyrgiakos narrowed the gap six minutes from time but Jurica Vranjes netted Bremen's fifth two minutes later.

Brazilian playmaker Ribas Diego completed the rout in stoppage time.

Egyptian forward Mohamed Zidan didn't make the squad as he is still in rehabilitation after going under knife.

Bremen are on top of the table with 33 points, two ahead of second-placed Stuttgart who needed a last-gasp strike to edge Bochum 1-0.

Swiss striker Marco Streller notched the winner one minute from time to help his side grab a hard-fought victory.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich beat Energie Cottbus 2-1 at the Allianz Arena.

Steffen Baumgart's goal for Cottbus seven minutes after re-start cancelled out Bastian Schweinsteiger's opener in the 42nd minute.

Belgian defender Daniel van Buyten sealed the victory in the 54th minute.
