Brazilian giants Internacional SC were crowned 2006 FIFA Club World Cup champions after beating Barcelona 1-0 in the final on Sunday.

Adriano struck home in the 82nd minute to give Internacional the title and maintain the hegemony of Brazilian teams on the competition with a perfect record.

Barcelona dominated the game from the start while Internacional failed to produce a clear chance until Adriano's goal.

The 29-year-old midfielder notched the ball home past Barca keeper Victor Valdes after a neat layoff from Pedro Iarley who hoaxed Carles Puyol with a slick move.

The European champions tried to level and wasted chances through Ronaldinho and Deco in the dying minutes of the game.

Internacional, who succeed compatriots Sao Paulo as champions, received the trophy in a lavish ceremony after the game.

Portuguese international Deco was awarded the tournament's Golden Ball award for best player while Ahli playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika won the Golden Shoe award for top-scorer with his three goals.
