Brazil suffered their first defeat under coach Dunga when they lost to Portugal 2-0 in an international friendly in London on Tuesday.

Late goals from Simao Sabrosa and central defender Ricardo Carvalho sealed the victory for the Portuguese who have not lost to Brazil since 1989.

This was Dunga’s first defeat in six matches since taking over from Carlos Alberto Parreira after the 2006 World Cup finals.

Simao connected with a neat cross from Ricardo Quaresma to power home a first-time volley that gave Portugal the lead in the 82nd minute.

Only seconds before the final whistle Carvalho sealed the win with a deceiving shot that left Brazil keeper Helton stranded.

Elsewhere, Ghana hammered West African rivals Nigeria 4-1 in another international friendly in London.

Goals from Laryea Kingson, Sulley Muntari, Junior Agogo and Joe Tex Frimpong awarded Ghana the game while Taiwo Taye grabbed a consolation for Nigeria from the penalty spot.

Earlier in the day, Villarreal striker Jon Dahl Tomasson struck twice as Denmark cruised past Australia with a 3-1 victory.

Daniel Jensen was also on the score sheet for the Danes while Brett Emerton scored Australia’s only goal.

In other friendly matches, Bulgaria beat Latvia 2-0, Mali beat Lithuania 3-1 and European champions Greece lost to South Korea 1-0.
