Zamalek will face Hilal Sudan in the second round

Seven Arab clubs have booked places in the second round of the African Champions league and Confederation Cup after progressing through preliminary rounds in both competitions.

In the Champions League, Al-Hilal of Sudan grabbed a 2-0 away victory against Police of Zanzibar to make it 6-0 on aggregate and wait for a Nile derby against Egyptian giants Zamalek who cruised past Vital’O of Burundi with a 5-1 aggregate win.

Tunisian club Esperance beat Chadian hosts Renaissance 6-0 on aggregate, while 2006 quarter -finalists JS Kabylie of Algeria have won both legs against Balantas of Guinea Bissau for an aggregate win of 5-2.

Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca slumped to a surprise defeat to Mauritanian young boys Mauritel in Nouakchott, fortunately Wydad had the upper hand with a 4-0 win in the first-leg.

In the Confederation Cup, Algerian newcomers Olympique Chelf overcame inexperienced Mauritanian side Concorde 3-1 on aggregate, while El Gaouafel Gafsa of Tunisia enjoyed the same result against Togolese outfit Port Lome.

The rest of preliminary round games take place on Sunday. FNIS of Niger entertain USMA of Algeria in the Champions League, while Ahli Tripoli of Libya are away to Ascoton of Chad.
