Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard urged his teammates not to be too much worried about their forthcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Spanish giants Barcelona.

"We have to believe in ourselves, and not to be over concerned by Barcelona," the 26-year-old told the club's official magazine.

Barcelona will host Liverpool in the first-leg of the UCL round of 16 on Wednesday.

Gerrard believes Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez's past experience in the Spanish Primera Liga could prove vital in determining the outcome of the game.

"Rafa knows them well, he knows the Liga like nobody else does, that will make them cautious about our visit."

The England international midfielder said there is no reason to fear the atmosphere at the Catalans' venue Nou Camp.

"A lot of our lads have plenty of experience of playing in the Camp Nou, so there is no fear factor.

"We have been waiting for this game for ages it seems, and now it is almost here we know that a positive result would set us up nicely when we bring them back to Anfield for the second-leg," he added.

Liverpool won the 2005 Champions League after a dramatic comeback thriller against AC Milan in Istanbul, while Barcelona are reigning champions having won the 2006 final against Arsenal in Paris.
